I
have been asked what is the difference between genealogy and
family history. To me, it is a simple answer. Genealogy involves
tracing ones bloodline back through history with the use of a
family tree of some description. Family History is that, plus
more. Its finding out about the lives of the people in your
tree, what they did for a living, how they lived, what kind of
families did they marry into. The possibilities are endless,
only limited by what you want to learn for yourself.
Examples of this from my family history can be found using the
links above. Some are about my immediate family, whilst others
are about ancestors long since gone. Other interesting
discoveries that are not linked above include facts like:-
My Great-Aunts (paternal) children married into the family of
the World War One poet Siegfried Sassoon. Although its not a
blood link its still very interesting to me.
A Great-Uncle (maternal) fought in the Boer War. I'm still
currently researching this.
My Grandfathers (paternal) brother is somehow linked to the
rock/pop singer Marti Wilde. Again, I'm still researching this.
This is a list of surnames and places that I am currently
researching. Some of these are also on my mothers side which I
am also researching, just not as advanced.

As expected after all this research I have quite an
extensive family and it would be impossible to name them all
here. They are spread all over the country from Yorkshire
down to Plymouth.
